VxD (Virtual Device Driver) - Definition
VxD is an abbreviation for Virtual Device Driver. It is a specific type of Windows device driver that has direct access to the operating system’s kernel. The x stands for extended, as the driver is basically an extension of the kernel. This extension gives the VxD access to low-level data, such as information passing between the operating system and applications.
