Windows XP automatically groups all our open programs on the Taskbar. This means that when you open numerous programs or even numerous Browser windows, the first few programs will fill up your Taskbar until it is full. Then when you open up an additional program or new Browser windows, Windows will group all similar open programs into a single button on your Taskbar, thereby denying you the usual quick access to switch between them. For instance, with previous Windows versions, you were able to open as many Web Pages as you like and they would continue to span out across and within the Taskbar. True, the Task Bar buttons do become smaller in size, but the ability to quickly switch between open programs in not inhibited. Turning Off Taskbar Grouping In Windows XP
- Begin by first clicking on the Start Button.
- Then click on the Control Panel icon located in the right column of the Start Menu.
- Now click on the Taskbar and Start Menu icon to display its Properties Window.
- If your Start Menu is set to the Classic View, then begin by clicking on the Start Button.
- Then click on Settings, then click on the Taskbar and Start Menu icon to display its Properties.
- Now, within the Taskbar appearance section, locate the Group similar taskbar buttons option.
- Then use your mouse to remove the check mark from box that precedes this option.
- Then click the OK button to save your settings and exit the Taskbar Properties Window.
- The Taskbar Grouping feature in Windows XP will now be disabled.
