Quarantine - Definition

Quarantine, in computer science, refers to isolating files infected by computer viruses and placing them into a special directory so as to eliminate the threat they pose. It is often seen in anti-virus programs. Once you quarantine a file infected with a virus, you usually delete them as they often can not be repaired. For instance, Trojan horse and worm files copy files to the hard drive, which are then loaded when Windows starts. In most cases, it is safe to delete them because Windows does not need them.
