Port - Definition

A Port is a computer’s interface that has the ability to support the transmission of multiple bits at once. Ports are seen as various types of connectors located on the back of a computer, which are used for connecting peripheral devices such as a printer, fax machine, CD-Rom, and monitor. A parallel port has an advantage in that it is faster than a standard serial port but is not nearly as fast as a USB port.
