POP is the acronym for Point of Presence or Post Office Protocol, depending on how it is being used. As Point of Presence, this is a reference to the location were a computer’s network can be connected, such as a telephone line. As Post Office Protocol, the reference is the way in which email software is transmitted and received from a mail server.
