If you use Outlook Express as your default E-Mail program, your contacts are usually stored in the Outlook Address Book. And depending on how you configured Outlook Express, every time you reply to an incoming mail, that person’s E-Mail address is automatically added to your Address Book. As ones Address book is extremely valuable, I thought I would compile a technical brief to show you how to export this Address Book to a floppy disk or thumb drive so that you can import it to another system, such as your Notebook.
Exporting Your Outlook Express Address Book
- Begin by placing a blank floppy disk into your floppy disk drive.
- Then launch Outlook Express in the manner you normally do until it opens.
- Now click on the word File, which is contained in your top tool bar area.
- This will pull down a menu for you to now click on Export.
- Then within the Export Menu, click on the word: Address Book.
- Now highlight Text File (Comma Separated Values) and click on the Export button.
- For a Floppy Disk, type A:\Address.csv into the Save exported file as: input box and click on Next.
- For a Thumb Drive, type E:\Address.csv into the Save exported file as: input box and click on Next.
- This will ensure that your Address Book gets saved to the media you selected.
- Now Select the fields you wish to export by placing check marks next to those fields.
- Then click on the Finish button at the bottom of the screen to Export your Address Book.
- Windows will inform you that the Address book export process has successfully completed.
- Now click on the OK button at the bottom of the screen to exit this notification Window.
- And then click on the Close button to exit the Address Book Export Tool Window.
- Now save your floppy or thumb drive in a secure place in case you need to import it in the future.
Importing Your Outlook Express Address Book
- As a demonstration, we will import the Address Book that was saved to a floppy or thumb drive.
- Therefore, insert the floppy disk or thumb drive containing your Address Book into your computer.
- This can be a different computer such as your notebook if you want to import it elsewhere.
- Then launch Outlook Express on whatever Computer you are importing to until it opens.
- Now click on the word File, which is contained in your top tool bar area.
- This will pull down a menu for you to now click on Import.
- Then within the Import Menu, click on the word: Other Address Book.
- Now highlight Text File (Comma Separated Values) and click on the Import button.
- Type A:\Address.csv into the Choose a file to import: box and click on Next.
- For a Thumb Drive, Type E:\Address.csv into the Choose a file to import: box and click on Next.
- Note: If you saved your export file elsewhere on your drive then you would browse to it.
- Now Select the fields you wish to import by placing check marks next to those fields.
- Then click on the Finish button at the bottom of the screen to Import your Address Book.
- Windows will inform you that the Address book import process has successfully completed.
- Now click on the OK button at the bottom of the screen to exit this notification Window.
- And then click on the Close button to exit the Address Book Import Tool Window.
