Offline Browsing - Definition

Offline Browsing refers to downloading and copying web pages onto a computer in order to view them locally without being connected to the Internet. There are certain capture programs available that will download all pages of a site, including all associated graphic files. Although this is useful for the person who copies the web pages, Offline Browsing is usually frowned upon because it places a rather large strain on the web server that the content is being downloaded from. There is also the copyright issue to consider when downloading another’s web site pages and the associated graphics files that go along with them. Some web servers are actually set up to deny access to offline browser programs.
