Hidden Files - Definition
Hidden Files are files that do actually exist on a computer but do not appear when listing the files in My Computer or Windows Explorer. The are usually files that are vital to the operation of a system and are therefore hidden so that a user will not accidentally alter or delete them. Some programs create hidden files to keep users (or viruses) from copying them illegally or from erasing or altering them by mistake. For example, MS-DOS hides the files IO.SYS and MSDOS.SYS as they are vital to the operating system.
