GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) - Definition
GPU is an abbreviation for Graphics Processing Unit. It is a single chip processor located on the video card dedicated to rendering graphics for a personal computer, workstation, or game console. It can sit directly on top of a video card or it can be integrated directly into the motherboard as a chipset. It handles the processing for 2D and 3D graphics. By having a separate video Graphics Processing Unit, the main computer’s Central Processing Unit (CPU) can be freed up to handle all other computing tasks.
