Gigabyte - Definition
A Gigabyte per the American Heritage dictionary is a unit of storage capacity equal to 1,073,741,824 bytes. Definition number two states: One billion bytes. As computer information is based on two units consisting of digital 0’s and 1’s, 2 to the 30th power equates to the number 1,073,741,824 listed above. However for our purposes, simply think of a Gigabyte to mean 1,000,000,000 Bytes. In the computer world, Gigabyte is used as a reference to the amount of hard drive storage space. Its abbreviation is GB.
