Floppy Disk - Definition
A Floppy Disk is is a portable computer storage device that permits easy handling of data. Commonly used with personal computers, notebook computers, and word processors, such disks consist of flat, circular plates made of metal or plastic and coated with iron oxide that are reusable storage mediums. The Floppy Disk used today is the rigid 3½ inch disk that holds 1.44 MB. It is called a floppy disk because the first varieties, 5¼ inch disks that held 360 KB and 1.2 MB, were housed in bendable jackets.
