Energy Star - Definition
Energy Star is a United States government program requiring all consumer products, such as computer equipment, to conserve electrical power. It was program was created in 1992 by the US Environmental Protection Agency in an attempt to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission by power plants. Key features of Energy Star compliant hardware include built-in functionality to put the computer and monitor into a sleep state after a specified period so as to limit the amount of power they can draw.
