Drive Letter - Definition
A Drive Letter is the naming convention for disk drives on IBM and compatible computers. Drives are named by letter, beginning with A, followed by a colon. Some examples of drives that would be assigned a Drive Letter, viewable within Windows Explorer or My Computer, are: a floppy disk drive, a CD Rom drive, a DVD Rom drive, a hard disk drive, a flash memory drive as well as other types of physical disk drives.
