Device Driver - Definition
A Device Driver is a program that allows a specific device, such as a modem, network adapter, or printer, to communicate with the operating system. Although a device itself might be installed on your system, the operating system cannot use the device until you have installed and configured the appropriate driver. After a Device Driver is configured and installed, it will load automatically when a computer is started, and thereafter run invisibly. Some device drivers for standard components, such as keyboards or monitors, are already built into the operating system and do not require a user to manually install a driver for them.
