Defragment - Definition
Defragment is cleaning up and restoring broken files within a computer. Fragmentation occurs when parts of a file stored on a hard drive become broken into pieces and then stored in various locations. When a computer retrieves a file, it must search for all the fragmented pieces to make the file whole. Defragment is when all pieces of the file are restored to one location resulting in quicker data retrieval by the system.
